HIDDEN FROM HISTORY
GLBT folks have been part of humanity since its beginnings and have contributed significantly to our culture.
WHY SHOULD I CARE??!!
A very common question. Many people wonder why some of us bother to explore the sexual orientation of
historical figures. Why do we want to "flaunt", as it were, their sexuality? Isn't that a private matter?
The reason is this: Our society views GLBT people at best as mere flukes of nature. Some state that we are
mere social leeches, contributing nothing. Many of us grow up believing the lie that we will never amount to
much, that our sexuality is a ball and chain dragging us down from the heights of humanity.
Well, we call major bull on that. All people need to know that gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender have been
and are PRODUCTIVE members of society. Those who claim we are "not natural" need to know that stories of
our existence in human history have cropped up again and again throughout history. GLBT people need to know that there
are MANY role models they can look to. There are many human achievements about which they can say "someone like me DID that".
So here are some people that you may or may not know about. Click on the name/question to reveal the biography/answer.

And perhaps the next time someone yells "Queer" at you, you can smile and hold
your head high- proud to be part of a people who have contributed so much to
society.
